How much of the world is covered by cities? not much

Vinicius Netto asked this question a few days ago. Here is the answer I've found based on a paper by Seto and colleagues.

But the land use of a city should include not just the urban area but the other areas used for water supply, food supply, supply of materials (wood, metal, stone etc), energy supply, to those living there. Are these included in the paper?

The paper only brings a measure of land cover, but you are absolutely correct in pointing out that the impact of urbanization on planet resources and the environment goes beyond urbanized land per se
