Yeap, the comparison is probably drawn on data from before the war in Syria. That would need some update :)

Hi everybody! Internet is a great thing but also quite strange. I drew these maps years ago, but only now they come to attention. The data is from 2008, so of course the numbers need updating. Syria used to be a middle income country, quite well off actually. It was not a poor country before the war. It is very sad this has changed so dramatically.

Paraná should be Roumania - a bunch of Latins (Venetians) who everyone keeps associating with Slavs. Even the shape is the same!

Paraná devia ser Romênia - bando de latinos (a maioria é descendente de vênetos) que todo mundo associa com eslavos. Até o formato no mapa é o mesmo!
